Job Description Summary
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Facility Operations, the Assistant Director assists with the daily oversight including the Pottruck Center, Sheer Pool, and Fox Fitness Center. Oversees and supports the Facility Coordinators in the hiring, onboarding, and training of part time staff. Oversight of the two full time Facility Coordinator staff. This position leads and manages professional and administrative duties related to operations of all facilities. Coordinates all maintenance of facilities and equipment, inventory, and housekeeping needs. Develops plans related to facility planning, space utilization and management, safety and accessibility requirements. Coordinates operations to support all program and service areas. This position will maintain appropriate certification to support the facility and aquatics (CPR Instructor, CPO, PA Pesticide License). Will assess and mitigate current and future risk for the department, review risk management policies and procedures, and leads CPR/AED/First Aid certifications and audits of staff. Assist with event management as needed. Supports the varsity swim and dive team during home competitions.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities
  • Assists the Associate Director, Facility Operations with supervision and management of recreation facilities, including planning for openings and closings, enforcing policy compliance, participating in risk management tasks, addressing customer issues, and serving as a resource to the part-time staff. Performs daily facility inspections to identify maintenance or housekeeping needs, manages preventative maintenance programs for fitness equipment, and reports on work order requests and equipment repair progress.
  • Works collaboratively with the Associate Director, Facility Operations to evaluate and coordinate aquatic facility repairs, maintenance, housekeeping, and capital projects. Maintains Certified Pool Operator and PA Pesticide License. Communicates with Aquatics Coordinator for scheduling and operational purposes.
  • Responsible for personnel management of all facility operations coordinator staff including training, supervision, evaluation, development, and discipline.
  • Support Facility Operations Coordinators in the hiring and onboarding process for new employees, in addition to overseeing and tracking the scheduling, performance, training, risk audits, and team building for a staff of nearly 30 Recreation Assistants. Ensures buildings are staffed safely and appropriately so that they can remain open as scheduled. Processes payroll for part-time staff members in absence of Coordinators.
  • Works collaboratively with the Associate Director, Facility Operations to assess and mitigate current and future risk for the department. Reviews risk management policies and procedures, holds required associated trainings, certifications, and licenses, and teaches safety and certification courses as required.
  • Assists with purchasing, inventory, reporting, and budget management for recreational facilities, with primary responsibility for Sheerr Pool operations.
  • Event manager as needed for DRIA and Business Development events. Assists with the coordination of game day operations for varsity home swim meets.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in higher education, recreation, sport management, physical education, other related field, and two to three years of progressive management and supervisory experience in facility operations or similar field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Experience in university recreation preferred.
  • Current American Red Cross Adult CPR and AED instructor certification, Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and PA Pesticide License required. Will be required to obtain these certifications within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated budgetary, risk management, and supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve assigned objectives, within budget and desired time frame.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of national trends and practices in recreation facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community.
  • Commitment to student development and ability to motivate and work closely with students/staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate, form partnerships, and work effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team.
  • Ability to oversee projects and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays required .
