Job Summary

The UK Libraries Special Collections Research Center seeks applications from undergraduate students for internships in the Learning Lab for a Learning Lab Intern position.

The Learning Lab promotes student research, scholarship, and more fully integrate Special Collections and primary source materials into the teaching and research mission of the University.

Interns will be paired with unprocessed archival collections and taught how to arrange and describe rare or unique collections in their area of research interest, while enhancing access through the production of guides, exhibits, or transcriptions. In addition, interns will create a research project based on their collection and disseminate their research through conference presentations or exhibits. This final project may be designed to dovetail with a required capstone or other academic requirement. Students may also earn up to three credit hours per semester through EXP 396.

The student should have attention to detail, writing, and editing skills, and the ability to follow department procedures and policies and to work independently. It is expected that the student assistant will maintain a regular work schedule. Must have respect for the intrinsic value of archival materials.

Preferred Education/Experience

Basic computer proficiency with a working knowledge of Microsoft applications, as well as an understanding of database management. Students should have more than 12 credits to apply.
