The College of Medicine - Tucson (COM-T) is inviting applications from innovative basic and translational scientists to serve as head of the college's Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. This department houses a diverse group of excellent faculty with a ranking of #5 nationally by the Blue Ridge Rankings for Cell Biology/Anatomy departments within Schools of Medicine. The ideal candidate should have a demonstrated ability to build and lead teams, and to develop strong ties and connections with external constituencies and individuals; have strong and effective communication and mentoring skills driven by transparency; and have a national/international reputation as a respected and accomplished researcher and educator.
Position Description
Reporting directly to Dean Michael M.I. Abecassis, the department head will work collaboratively with the leaders of COM-T to build upon excellence in existing teaching and team-based research programs to position the department for further growth and transformation. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership and direction for the growth of the research and teaching enterprise. The department head will evaluate and leverage department strengths to expand the UArizona footprint, expand relationships and partnerships with community providers, recruit and retain talented faculty. The department head will be responsible for research advancement and teaching excellence of the department and the enhancement of the national reputation. The department head will also focus on efforts to expand and optimize use of existing space, foster philanthropic development, and manage resources across the enterprise. This leader will provide strategic and tactical leadership for all aspects of the department within the College of Medicine - Tucson.

CMM is integral to the mission of the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson (COM-T) in support of medical education, where our internationally-recognized Educator Scholar faculty spearhead the Discipline Direction of Anatomy, Histology, and Genetics. Working with the Willed Body Program, we support training gross anatomy, pathology, and surgery for all levels of education at COM-T and numerous institutions across the State of Arizona. These dynamic programs highlight our strong commitment to creative scholarship and education.

Banner University Medicine
In 2015, Banner Health merged with the University of Arizona Health Network to form Banner University Medicine. At the heart of this merger is academic medicine - research, teaching and patient care - across three academic medical centers in Tucson and Phoenix. Banner University Medicine's presence in Tucson includes the Banner - University Medical Center Tucson, Banner - University Medical Center South and the Diamond Children's Medical Center, and dozens of physician offices and clinics across Southern Arizona. Banner - University Medical Center Tucson opened a tower in 2019 featuring 228 new private rooms, for a total of 649, and 20 new operating rooms. The hospital is located near the campus of the University of Arizona and is adjacent to the University of Arizona College of Medicine.
