General Description:
The Benefits Analyst provides specialized consultation and services to NOVA’s benefited workforce with a primary focus on administration of the benefits programs within an HR team of benefits specialists. Responsibilities may include absence management (FMLA, VSDP, LWOP, Parental Leave), worker’s compensation, health benefits and/or retirement. Additionally, duties may include facilitating new employee orientation on a semi-monthly basis and in person, as well as generating various reports for college, state and federal compliance. Position may also include regular reconciliation of VRS and health care each month. This is an entry to mid-level position.
Duties and Tasks:
Provides analytical benefits reporting gathered from the benefits information obtained in the HCM system.
Participates in the enrollment for benefits programs and the new employee orientation presentations.
Coordinates and ensures the College is compliant with reporting requirements.
Develops, in conjunction with other HR teams, staff procedures and processes that provide efficient, accurate and timely processes, as well as developing the communication necessary for employee and supervisor, all important need-to-know information or processes and procedures.
Assists in preparing and maintaining personnel benefits records and operational manuals and handbooks.
Provides on-site services to the various campuses within NOVA, as needed.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required KSAs:
Knowledge of basic Human Resources best practices, rules and regulations. Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia’s Benefits plans, processes and information systems.
Skilled in interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Skilled in problem solving & critical thinking, systems analysis and time management skills.
Skilled in desktop computer skills in spreadsheets, presentations, internet, navigation, word processing and databases.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to articulate in both oral and written communication.
Ability to demonstrate recognition of quality control areas in benefit satisfaction for employees, third party administrators and fiscal reporting. Ability to cope with evolving changes and develop accurate, efficient and timely processes.
Ability to organize work, handling multiple tasks in time-sensitive windows with an aptitude for numerical calculations and customer service. Participate in a team setting that encourages both individual and team accomplishments; ability to establish goals.
The position requires proficiency in the usage of a PC, software applications, and standard office equipment as well as knowledge of MS Office, HRIS systems, and applicant tracking systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of applicable experience, training and/or education.
Some experience in benefits administration.
Some customer service and forward-facing experience.
Some experience working in a team environment, collaborating regularly to meet business needs and time-sensitive goals.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Post-baccalaureate certificate or master’s degree in human resource management , business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of applicable experience, training and/or education.
Certification in PHR, SPHR, CEBS or other related certification.
Some experience in functional duties of benefit administration combined with an understanding of related HR tasks.
Some work experience in higher education and/or public sector is preferred.
Some work experience in a fast paced, high volume environment with a decentralized customer base is highly desirable.
Some experience interpreting and applying the Virginia Department of Human Resources Management (DHRM) and/or VCCS policies and DOA guidelines and procedures .
Some experience working with PeopleAdmin.
