POSITION: Youth Outreach Educator
HOURS: 20 hours per week
STATUS: Part-Time Non-Exempt
COMPENSATION: Wage: $21 per hour, Medical/Dental, IPERS, FSA/HRE
POSITION START DATE: July 1, 2024
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: County Director
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: K-12 Education Coordinator, County Youth Coordinator, Admin/Youth
Assistant, Office Manager, County Director, State of Iowa 4-H Office, and ISU Extension Program
Specialists based in Dubuque County.

Description
The Youth Outreach Educator will work with youth, volunteers, and professionals to plan, implement, and
evaluate a progressive series of educational programs and experiences that work toward multiple life skill
outcomes (leadership, citizenship, communications, personal life management and knowledge). Positive
youth development programs focus on connecting young people with caring adults and involving them
over an extended period of time. Our priorities include: extraordinary learning experiences and capacity
building for positive youth development.
 20 hours per week/flexible schedule.
 5-10% of work will be evenings and weekends.
 Reimbursement for work related travel; must provide own transportation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 Apply research based educational methods, strategies and approaches to facilitate learning.
 Evaluate and report impact and accomplishments.
 Recruitment and retention of new and existing members.
 Market 4-H to local community and potential stakeholders.
 Identify future partners and maintain beneficial partnerships in the community.
 Facilitate communication with youth stakeholders and volunteers.
 Use the volunteer management system (ISOTURE model) to recruit, screen, orient, train and
evaluate volunteers to expand the urban 4-H capacity to deliver 4-H programs.
 Collaborate with local schools to incorporate programming aligned to the Iowa CORE.
 Coordinate and deliver programming during times children and youth are not in school, including
before- and after-school hours, teacher workdays, school holidays, summer months, and
weekends, including activities for home-schooled youth.
 Coordinate activities and resources with County Youth Coordinator and K-12 Education
Coordinator.
 Provide support and assistance for youth programs during the Dubuque County Fair.
 Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
 Associates degree and equivalent experience required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
 2 years of experience working with youth and volunteers preferred.
 Degree in education, youth or human sciences preferred.
 Computer literacy required. (Microsoft Office and database management)
 Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
 Ability to be approved through ISU Extension criminal background check and DMV screening
 Ability to work in a team atmosphere
 Ability to work with minimal supervision; self-starter
 Problem solving skills, organizational skills, detail oriented and multi-tasking capabilities
 Ability to complete scheduled tasks on time
 Effectively communicate with all age groups (written and orally)
 Experience working in an educational setting
 Ability to lift and move 40 lbs.
