Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual who has a strong administrative, partnership, and student development background to serve in this 12-month, full-time position as Conference and Events Manager. Gettysburg College is a highly selective, residential undergraduate liberal arts college, which enrolls approximately 2,400 students. This position reports to the Director of Facilities for Service and Communications.

The primary responsibility of the Conference and Events manager is to manage daily operations and facilitate the marketing and sales efforts of the Conference and Event Services group.

Responsibilities include:
* Manage Conference Department Operations including $1.6 million budget including the budgets for the college's internal conference programs and athletic prospect events
* Suggest revisions to the college's policies and procedures on facility rentals and summer programs
* Prepare reports on conference attendance, revenue, and occupancy, and to offer trending analysis
* Coordinate summer housing programs and manage summer calendar
* Collaborate with other campus service providers to prepare for upcoming conferences
* Coordinate the efforts of the Facilities Services Department to support all existing campus events
* Provide a hands-on management approach for full-time and summer staff
* Develop and implement the marketing and sales strategies for leads available through current memberships
* Manage and grow the existing internal academic camp program
* Set sales goals, objectives, and marketing budgets with guidance from the Director of Facilities Service & Communications
* Implement and periodically review the department's strategic plan
* Manages the sales efforts by providing sales goals and strategies to attract the target markets of existing leads and internal academic camps.
* Negotiates and creates all conference and event program contracts
* Ensures the branding and messaging on all marketing and sales initiatives is consistent with institutional goals
* Conduct site visits and tours for potential customers
* Maintain relationships with trade associations
* Ensure positive customer experiences and relationships
* Travel required for trade shows and conferences

Use of Conference and event management, computer software applications, and marketing principles required. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, lift to 30 pounds regularly and 50lbs on an occasional basis, drive in all types of weather, to work harmoniously with a variety of individuals, work under pressure in a stressful environment, to provide superior customer service, to interpret policies and procedures, to communicate orally and in writing, to understand and create financial reports, to think creatively, and to have the ability to work weekends and evenings throughout the summer.

Driving is an essential function of this position; therefore a valid driver's license is required. Must have a favorable driving record as outlined by the College fleet policy. CMP or CCEP preferred or the ability to obtain desired.

This role includes working evenings and weekends throughout the summer.

A college degree is strongly preferred (preferably in marketing or hospitality) with experience in event management and planning required. Experience in the Convention Industry or conference event sales preferred. Experience in higher education is preferred.


The Conference and Events Manager 12-month, full-time administrative appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience and is complemented by an excellent benefits package.
