ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I

The City of Cedar Falls is accepting application materials for the position of Engineering Technician I. Expected employment offer will be in the $22.704-28.38/hour range, depending on qualifications, with full-time benefit package. Duties will include assisting senior Technicians with the preparation of engineering projects, including technical project inspection and design; construction and surveying; cost estimating; project recordkeeping; monitoring and ensuring site, construction contract, and storm water management program compliance; reviewing construction plans and specifications; issuing engineering related permits; communicating with staff, contractors, developers, and the general public; maintaining and updating water, sanitary sewer, storm water, subdivision, and address maps; and performing various technical engineering tasks. Basic knowledge of construction and civil engineering principles, practices, and techniques required. Candidates must also have the basic ability to operate computer aided drafting, word processing and spreadsheet software and various surveying equipment and supplies.

Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering technology or related field required by mid-May hiring list approval; no previous formal experience required, but one year of technical engineering experience is preferred. Candidates must have possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving record and possession of, or ability to obtain, the following certifications: Aggregate Sampler, Aggregate Technician, Level I HMA, Level I PCC, and Erosion Control through the State of Iowa, and the Iowa Storm Water Education Partnership.

Candidates meeting the above minimum education requirement by mid-May list approval and that have submitted the required application materials outlined below will be invited to complete a position related questionnaire to fulfill required Civil Service testing. Testing information will be forthcoming. Post-offer, pre-employment physical and drug screen required for the selected individual.
